Arizona Trail: Miller Canyon, Gabe Zimmerman Trailhead to The Old Sonoita Highway
Okay, I've been derelict in posting on my blog. So I need to ask, "Who cares?" I've been blogging for fifteen years and I have a following of nearly four supporters. One passed, but she didn't like my writing anyway.
Yesterday, Jack and I headed toward Sierra Vista to find a trail to hike and after driving a bit, I found access to Miller Canyon. It wasn't the hike I had wanted. I'm really interested in hiking Miller Peak, all 9466 ft. of it. But yesterday was good cook hiking weather and Miller Canyon is an attractive hike. The only problem I had was Jack.
Jack is well known here in Benson. He's smart, too smart! He's manipulative, passive aggressive, and..., That may be a little over the top. But he grew up on the end of a cable, identifying everything that passes as a potential danger. That's hard to do. I've managed to train him to come pretty much always, with the exception of him running off to some noise, usually a group of hikers or mountain bike riders. He's good with kids, adults even equestrians. But he BARKS!!! People tell me he's all right, but I suspect he scares them.
Yesterday I kept him on a leash because there were many hikers and that beast dragged me 2 miles: Then I dragged him 2 miles back. If I can't stop him from running off, he won't be with me on the AZ Trail.

I was living in Kansas when Gabby Giffords, one of AZ's US Representatives was shot and I am relieved that she lived, and still fights for her recovery. But sadly, Gabe Zimmerman, who was also shot, died of his wounds.
Gabe was one of the people who believed the AZ Trail, a trail extending from the Mexican border to the Utah border. could be created by connecting already existing trails.
This portion of the trail is about 8 miles in length. It's not demanding so you don't need to be an ultra-marathoner. Equestrians, runners, mountain bikers, and hikers share the trail. There is no water.
